Illustration Friday- Gluttony
This little drawing may be self explanatory and may not. It's about the baby bird refusing to take wing and leave the nest, growing fat while depending on the mother bird to take care of it's needs. The mother bird has not been wise, has continued to care of the baby until she is worn thin. The baby bird is about to devour the last thing the mother has to give, her heart.

that is sad. i didn't think of this story when thinking of a way to represent gluttony. this is a scary thought and is an important lesson to remember in my life.
thank you.

Great b+w! I could look at your work all day long. It amazes me how many drawings you get done and they all look so darn great!
Thanks for being an inspiration.
Oh no! I thought at first that she was feeding her baby a bra! That would be my idiocy though, and nothing to do with your drawing.
This story reminds me of Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree, which (I guess) is supposed to be about friendship, but which is really about gluttony and TAKING ADVANTAGE. I am on a one-woman campaign against that book.
Frightening, touching and beautiful all at the same time. Your work is truly just incredible, and your take on gluttony is an excellent statement.

Your line work is stunning! It would take me weeks to complete a drawing like this...I have two sets of little hands that like to help Mommy with her art.
I did need the explanation I'm afraid, but the drawing itself it nice regardless of it's purpose, really like the linework !
wow, this is wonderful...love all the texture and also the funny juxtaposition of mom and baby...great!

Brilliant! I love that you didn't color this one. It comes across so well--in black and white. Fantastic job, great post.

Wow you guys, I am overwhelmed with all of your kind comments. This drawing is actually a part of a series of work I did called "A Mother's Heart", it was about the more difficult side of parenting/mothering. You can see all the drawings on my website as well as a wonderful essay written my my daughter Holly.

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave comments it really made my day!
Beautiful work girl! and deep!
Poor birds are both prisoners of their habbits. It´s very tragic, thinking, mummy-bird just wanted to give love by feeding her baby and baby-bird wanted to show love by staying at home. In the end there´s no way out, only because they blindly give and take just as their role demands.
Your interpretation keeps me thoughtfull. I really like your drawing-style.
