Another of Holly's Prints

Another of Holly's Prints

There are a few of you that have asked to see more of Holly's work so I will show you some of her stuff randomly. Her work is very conceptual in nature and much of it has to do with her physical and emotional pain.

I've left the file large because it needs to be viewed large to fully appreciate it. I am not able to explain the meaning, sorry.

Illo Friday- Crowd

I've been out of town and then feeling under the weather so this is not a new drawing this week. However, it fits the theme and is amusing so here you go.

The Letter "X"

The Letter "X"

At this time tomorrow I'll be in the air! Today I will be busy getting all the loose ends tied up so I can go in peace. I'm very excited about this trip.

I'll be able to get on line there at Holly's but won't be posting any daily drawings (I don't think), I hope you guys miss them. For now I've got to run, the boys are hungry and I haven't had any coffee yet.

The Letter "W"

The Letter "W"

Tanner has no school today (all week) because of spring break, so there is a different rhythm to the day. I'll be busy with things I have to do to get ready to go and also with my little guy. We also have Kung Fu lessons and Paul and I will be finishing up the tax stuff. Pretty boring stuff but that's all there is right now.

I'm just so excited to be going to see Holly that I can hardly wait!

The letters "V" and "Z"

The letters "V" and "Z"

I must be loosing my marbles because this was supposed to be just the letter "V" but after it was almost finished I realized I had included the "Z", don't know why I did that?

Tanner is at his mom's house which leaves Paul and I by ourselves. This is what it would be like if we didn't have Tanner, it's a much quieter morning and we read the paper without interruptions, hmmmm. Still, we miss the little guy when he's not here.

I didn't actually get much done on the tax preparation yesterday, I needed to have Paul here to help and he was gone all day long. Oh well, maybe today. I have to pull it together today because I leave for Chicago early on Wednesday morning, time is running out.

It rained quite a bit yesterday! We needed it so bad that it just felt wonderful, it wasn't enough to end the drought but it at least gave us hope. It's supposed to rain again today so Paul isn't going roping. I won't have my usual quiet Sunday but I may have a much more productive one which is good. I know this is a boring post, sorry, I've been in a state of boredom for a while now. I think it's because I don't get started on any new projects. When I get back from Chicago I will re-group.

Time to go to church, cya. Hope your day is great!

The Letter "U"

The Letter "U"

So there you go, the letter "U" for you.

Today I'll be working on some tax stuff, bleh. I guess it's got to get done so I'll be happy when it's over with.

Don't know if I'll be back today, hope you are all having a lovely weekend!

Blurb for my Show

Blurb for my Show

See it Here on the Rembrandt's site

And the invitations went out this week so things are rollin' along. They have all the work and when I get back from Chicago the show will be hung. I get back late on the 28th and the 29th is the reception. Wooo Hoooo!

I've done lots of shows but I believe this one will be my best in terms of the work and also the gallery.

I bought a cute outfit a few weeks ago so really I think I'm all ready :-D

This pastel painting is not part of the show, I'm sharing it because it's spring and I feel like celebrating!

The letter "T"

The letter "T"

Tried a little different kind of color scheme for this one.

I'm feeling very "lack luster" today, sort of fuzzy brained and unmotivated. I'm planning on spending some time in silent solitude and see if I can figure out what's up with me. This is not a good way to be feeling when life is swirling all around me. I don't even have any blab today.
I'll check in on your blab and be amused this morning, heh.

Fw: A Plan and Raspberries to Mom

Fw: A Plan and Raspberries to Mom

I've goofed off on the computer all morning, so much for making a great plan of accomplishment for the day. Well, I have decided to do something fun instead and it will be good for me. I am going to meet farmerjulie at Rembrandt's in a while. I go out with friends so rarely that it's kind of pathetic, this will be fun.

Did any of you notice that one person made a comment in today's daily drawing post that maybe I should get my hair cut real short and that would perk me up? Well, that is my mom's little comment. She knows I'm suffering and looking pretty frumpy with my hair at this stage of the growing out process so she's trying to temp me. She's being a little devil on one shoulder and she knows it. However,(hands on hips, lower lip stuck out) I'm not giving in and someday my hair will be grown out and pretty and I will give her the raspberries (respectfully of course). ;-)

On second thought......Mom I love you but.....

Hah, that was fun I hope mom comes by again today :-D (Mom, you do know I'm kidding huh?)

Update- I had a nice time with farmerjulie and now I'm home again waiting for T-boy to come home from school.

Illustration Friday- Fragile

Illustration Friday- Fragile

This isn't a new illo but it's my favorite one with the theme of "Fragile". I've done quite a few in my series about a "Mother's Heart". The title is Impending Storm.
The mother is aware of the storm approaching, the wind blows and the dark clouds and raging rain approach. She holds her cracking eggs close to her (they represent her children and their potential) in a effort to protect them and give them a chance to reach the potential she knows is in each one. The mother knows from experience that these little ones are at risk in many ways and she's willing to do all she can to protect them.

The letter "R"

Good Morning. Feeling like I can't wake up this morning, and that's after a walk and everything. Maybe I will wake up pretty soon and have something to say, right now I'm in a stupor.

The Letter "Q"

The Letter "Q"

Today I'm later than usual because of problems with the server yet again, bleh. We will probably be changing servers because this is happening too often and it gets old.

Anyway, got Tanner off to school, took a walk with Paul, got the kitchen cleaned up and here I am posting my daily and saying hi! Today is going to be an "out" day, got some errands to do and want to get it over with. I'll check in on you guys just to make sure I know what's up and then I'm outa here.

The Letter "o"

So here it is Sunday again. I've been to church, out for a burger and now I'm going to do the work that needs done around here if it kills me today.
I'm sort of relieved that I'm in the mood to get it done because tomorrow I'll be happy about it.

Before and After

Before and After

Ok, I'm less than excited with the results of the hair coloring. I wanted an overall beige look with less contrast. That is what I told the girl along with showing her a picture. She gave me this. Well, it is better than it was but I will add another color next time to get it more like I wanted it.
Also, I said I'd show you and so I won't back out but keep in mind that these are pictures I took of myself and yes it looks like me, but no this is not what I look like :-P
Before- the gray did look silvery in the sunlight,

After

In the back it's dark, kind of mahogany about 3/4 of the way up and then the blond mix begins, I like the back best.
I'm feeling very brave to have showed these pictures. :-/

Fw: The Letter "N"

Fw: The Letter "N"

This would be my Mom's letter because her name is Netta- well of course it's other people's letter too!

Paul and I had a great walk on the greenbelt along the Boise River today, it was sunny and nice we didn't even need coats. We also had breakfast at a great bagel bakery and then did a few errands. It was such a pleasant morning.

As we were driving home I had him stop at a salon that I had been told was a good place to have my hair colored and I made an appointment for Monday. When we got home there was a message that they had a cancellation and I could come in today!!!! I'm so excited.
I wore my hair in a very short (nifty and artistic) crew cut for 15 years and finally decided to grow it out several months ago. My natural color is ash brown, very ash and now I have quite a bit of gray (I like to call it silver). It is so mousy. I had hoped that it would be pretty but it's not so I'm going to have a weave, it will include some beige blond and probably some warmer brown. I'm not sure yet. Anyway I'm really happy that I can get it done today. I had Paul take a picture of my current color so I can show you before and afters later.

In other news, I found a book at the library about graphic art and it has some wonderful exercises for inspiring creativity, I want to start trying some of them in my sketchbook just for fun. I'm also thinking about doing the drawing challenges along with the other artists that are part of the Everyday Matter's group. And, I'm taking my sketchbook to the salon with me today so I can draw while color processes on my hair. I know yesterday I was talking about not doing daily drawings, and I don't think I'll hold myself to it any more, but there are lots of reasons to draw even if it's not daily!

I'll be taking Tanner to a birthday party this evening and have to get a gift before my appointment.
Ok, gotta run for now.

Illustration Friday- Ancient

Illustration Friday- Ancient

This is the closest thing that I had to fit the theme. Just couldn't get to doing a new illo for Ancient this week. I do feel like this one fits the theme but not sure if other people would get the same feeling about it. At any rate, here is my submission for this week and it is certainly a change from my regular drawings.

The Letter "M"

The Letter "M"

Good Morning.
Today's drawing is brought to you by the letter "M".

Today's drawing is # 57 for this year so now I've done well over 400 daily drawings. I love doing the drawings but I'm begining to miss doing some other things like reading and seeing a movie once in a while. I don't think I'm going to quit but I may not continue doing a drawing every day or I may start doing a quicker style of drawing each day, I'm not sure. Just kind of thinking out loud.

I miss Holly. We had fun doing silly little things like going to second hand stores or just having coffee and drawing together at local coffee shops. We could just be together and be happy about it, comfortable. Sure am glad I'll see her on the 23rd.

Time to go get the guys ready this morning- today after school Tanner will be going with his Mom so I actually have today and tomorrow pretty much free to get stuff done without much interuption, I hope. Cya.

The letter "K"

Today's drawing is brought to you by the letter "K".

I've got a busy day starting with getting T-boy to school, then a walk and then more stuff to do in town. No time to blab this morning!

The letter "J"

The letter "J"

I like this little drawing, I've been having fun with the letters and it's a good time to be doing them because they are a little quicker to do and I've been a bit short on time these days.

Yesterday was so frustrating, we couldn't get on the internet for a good part of the day and of course that means there are plenty of things I can't get done. It seems to be a problem with the router and I don't know how to fix it, right now I've bypassed the router and so Paul's computer is not on line which of course is a major problem for him also. I've called a tech guy but he hasn't called back yet. Anyway Paul went to his office to work today and I'm on line for now so it's alright currently.

I got all of the stuff done for delivery to the gallery this morning so I'm all set to go soon.

It is unseasonably warm here, in the 60's yesterday and today is supposed to be 67! This is not good for country that is in a drought but it sure is pleasant to be outside. Lots of people are working in their yards, getting everything all spiffy, I don't feel ready for that but I may have to do it because things are growing and they don't wait. I may even get to have lunch on the deck today, sounds nice.

Rock

Rock

Well, the hand drawing that I painted a couple of weeks ago was "scissors" and so this one is "rock" and later I will do paper. Rock, Scissors, Paper- get it?

I'm feeling kind of cranky today, I know why, it's because my house needs some attention but I can't work on it. I've been letting things go because I've been busy with other stuff but eventually it gets to me. Today I must get everything ready for my March show at Drop Leaf Gallery because I have to deliver it all tomorrow morning. It's also a Kung Fu day so all work will stop at 3:45 so I can take Tanner to his lesson. I guess I'm feeling pressure to get lots of stuff done because I'll be going to Chicago later in the month. Oh well, the housework will wait won't it? Never mind that the dust bunnies are multiplying as I type.

Talked to Holly last night and she said that her life mainly consists of doing homework and working at the library at school. Her boyfriend, Elton, is there with her this week so she is more content and they do homework together. She sounded good, I'm looking forward to seeing her!

Sunday and the Letter "I"

Sunday and the Letter "I"

Today Tanner decided to stay home and not go to the roping with the guys, so he's out "hunting" with his bow and arrows. He has this big bear hide quiver on his back and it's pretty cute seeing him out there on the hill looking for "varmints".

Today's drawing was done with colored pencil instead of marker. I like it but I don't like the fact that colored pencil can smear a little so I will be doing most of my daily drawings with markers as usual.

I need to do housework today but I just can't make myself do it. Every feel like that? I know it would be best and yet every atom in my being says no, not today.
So I'm obeying my atoms, I guess I'll do it tomorrow :-/

I think I'll just do what I want and not worry about it, don't even know what I want to do either.

Better Late than Never

Better Late than Never

Something has been wrong with the internet connection since last evening, Grrrr, we just got back on line, Hooray!
Anyway here I am again.
Today's drawing is brought to you by the letter "H".

So it's been kind of a nice day, we didn't have to rush around for any reason and that was nice. I took Tanner to the library and we both enjoyed ourselves there. After that I sent him with his daddy and I took a walk which was so nice. It's in the low sixties, sunny with a light breeze and I walked in a beautiful area with running streams, lot of ducks and trees and pond, lovely. Since then I've been doing paper/computer stuff, getting my entry ready to send for the Idaho Watercolor Society annual juried show. Blah, Blah.....

Tonight we are going to settle in and watch a movie or two and just relax. I'm looking forward to that.

So, how are you guys? Having a good weekend, doing what you want?

Of course I'm way behind on reading your posts and I doubt if I'll get caught up, I'll just start again tomorrow because I'm trying to make a deal with myself to spend less time on the computer and more time on the creative process. I need to be painting again!

Illustration Friday- Jazz

Illustration Friday- Jazz

Illustration Friday's theme this week is "Jazz" , this is not a new drawing but it does fit the theme and this week I'm thankful that I have it!

It's strange that last night and the night before I didn't sleep well, I would have thought I wouldn't sleep well the night before the workshop but not after I knew it had gone well. So anyway, today I feel all draggie. Hopefully I'll perk up soon.

So it's just a regular work day today, I had gotten an e-mail yesterday from the Drop Leaf Gallery and they are wanting to get all the paintings, price sheets, photos etc, right away so they can get a good start on organizing the show. (The reception will be the day after I get back from Chicago, the 29th) Also, since last week the other Art Mom got sick we will be doing art in Tanner's class today. This is a busy time for me but it's good and feels productive.

I am wanting to look at all the Illustration Friday entries as well as catch up with my on-line friends but I guess that will wait until Sunday when I'm alone and need to goof off some.

Workshop is finished!

Back from day 2 of the workshop, it was fun and again everyone seemed to enjoy themselves! Here is a link to pictures of the students: Workshoppers (Click on the word Workshoppers)
The workshop was held in the basement of a church that Idaho Watercolor Society had rented. It's not a pretty space but it's very functional, there's lots of room for all the stuff artists like to bring and need for the classes. There is also a handy kitchen with refridgerators and sinks etc.

The goal of the workshop was to help the students understand the value of working in their sketchbooks, how in so many ways it can help to free them up with their art and discover how to be more creative and less predictable as well as realize that the sketchbook does not need any justification.
I had made a packet for each student including an essay giving them a little sketch of my background with art (including a some images of my earliest paintings) along with a couple of demos on how to make a drawing from a squiggle as well as how to make one begining with a letter. I had also printed a list of links to websites with great drawing and art as well as 12 litte examples of how I use markers and pens to achieve line, value, depth and interesting effects in my drawings. I included in the packet of printed materiels that I gave each student a sase with a survey to be filled out after the workshop, it was to find out how they evaluated the workshop and what suggestions they had for how I could improve in the future. I also had my sketchbooks there so the students could look at them and see how I work.

After going over the drawing demos, the first project was to do a drawing or drawings starting with a squiggle or a letter and encouraged them to just relax and not worry about things like if the subject matter was acceptable or if they were doing their drawing "right" or if it would ever become anything besides a drawing in their sketchbooks. I encouraged them to take their drawings to a finished stage, not just sketches but complete drawings (in color) that would stand alone.
The next project was to do a drawing/drawings of anything but to make it emotionally expressive. Since the theme for Illustration Friday is "Jazz" I suggested that as a subject along with a number of other ideas in case they did not come up with something. I talked a lot about "working out problems with composition, design, color, value etc." in the sketchbook which can only happen if the drawing is finished.
It was interesting to watch the women one by one relax and get into drawing with no pressure and just for the fun of it. At the end of the first day each student enthusiastically shared her drawings and talked about the experience. Most of the students wanted to go home and draw more!
We also talked about the "What Ifs". By this I mean that although the drawings were done for the pleasure of drawing, while they were being shared I would ask, "What if" this drawing were made into a watercolor painting and we would talk a little about the possibilities?
The idea that a drawing that was silly or made just for fun could possibly become an interesting painting was really fun to explore and led us to today's projects.
I started the day by showing the students a simple, low tech way to transfer and enlarge their drawings to watercolor paper. After that the day was spent doing just that and then painting. I tried to help everyone in every way that I could by making suggestions and giving encouragement as much as possible on both days. We ended the day with another sharing session and lots of smiles and great ideas. I am looking forward to getting the surveys back, not to get pats on the back but rather to get constructive ideas on how I can improve if I'm ever asked to do a workshop again. I think it went well, especially since it was a first, I really enjoyed it, but I know there is room for improvement.

And I explained all that because a couple of you have asked what the workshop was about. So now you know!

Right now I'm tired but happy and looking forward to doing some drawing for myself tonight.

And a HUGE thank you to all my LJ friends who have been so incredibly supportive and encouraging! It was really great to have your votes of confidence!

"G" is for Good Times

"G" is for Good Times

Today's drawing is brought to you by the letter "G".

So, I'm ready once again to go and teach the workshop. I'm looking forward to it again.
I'm going to try and take a few more pictures today so I can share later.

Right now I am SO ready for a cup of coffee and a bagel. Thanks again for all the kind words.
I will share what the workshop was all about this evening.

The letter "F" and I'm off to teach!

The letter "F" and I'm off to teach!

So you see today's letter is brought to you by the letter "F".

Guess what? I'm all ready to go teach my first workshop! Today is the day that I find out if all this preparation will have been worth it.
I'm amazed at how calm I am, I feel like it will go ok. The one thing I am not lacking is enthusiasm for drawing and I hope to pass that on to the students.

I even had time to go out and buy some cute clothes yesterday so I don't feel so frumpy :-D My sister would be so proud of me, she always dresses well and I'm the one that can usually be found in "comfort" clothes. Well, the new ones are comfortable but cute too. So anyway, Papa is getting Tanner off to school and I'll be out in work traffic making my way across town for a full day of arting.

Toodleloo!

The letter "E"

The letter "E"

Today's drawing is brought to you by the letter "E".

I worked for hours yesterday and the day seemed to fly by so fast it was amazing, however I did not finish getting everything ready for my workshop :-( So I'll be at it again today. I'm pretty sure I'm almost done, just need to put finishing touches on my plans and then move on to other work.

Right now it's time to feed the boys so I'll stop in again later.
