A surprise in the Barbeque

A surprise in the Barbeque

This is what I found in the barbeque today. I was planning on doing Kabobs but I guess I'll do them on the little indoor grill. These are Starling eggs. There is just a tiny hole on the side for the barbeque to get into her nest but I guess she doesn't mind. She is good with color don't you think? Weaving the blue into the bottom of her nest accent's those beautiful aqua eggs and the rusts and tans are good too. I also notice that Starlings don't poop in their nests, they poop just before they go in, I can tell by the signs all over the concrete, ewww.

The Starling certainly has an artist's touch.
Your poop comment, reminded me of what I have seen blackbirds do. Every spring, a pair build a nest in the old cedar tree near the pond. After the baby blackbirds hatch out and begin to grow, the parents diligently remove the small round globs of baby "poop". The most interesting part is that each poop cluster is carried in the parent blackbird's beak and held there until the bird is over the pond. At that moment the package is dropped into the water. The process is repeated until the nest is clean. I often wonder if the blackbird is incorporating a bit of fun into this seemingly mundane chore?

I had no idea that blackbirds did poop duty like that! We have blackbirds around here but I've never stopped to observe them by their nests. We sure have had them dive-bomb our heads when we walked too close to the nest though, they get so riled up!

Shell, I thought they were gorgeous too, mother nature has great taste.
Janey, I hate to say it but the birds abandoned the nest, i think they didn't like the activity.
We do have lots of wildlife to see here, mostly birds but also foxes, snakes, ground squirrels (hundreds) and cotton tails. It's nice living in the country.
Cin, I'm glad you liked this one!
