Holding the Sun

Holding the Sun
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
This is the hands of my friend David, he's crocheting an afghan for his son Judah. I loved the way the light is lighting up his hands and work. I wish it had been more clear but this was the best I could do. He was sitting in a dimly lit living room with a shaft of sun over his shoulder.

I farted around with most of the day today, ran errands that needed running but goofed off a bit too. Oh well, I guess I'm just in the mood to be irresponsible and unproductive. I didn't even come home until about 3:30 and I had left at 8:20 this morning for my workout.

It's another pretty day although it's over 80 degrees, still puffy bright clouds in a blue sky and lots of green around because of the rain. I didn't take my camera with me today, I hate to leave it in my car, I protect it because it's so precious to me.

I'm reading a book called, When I Relax I Feel Guilty, I need to have a new perspective on life. I need to learn how to relax and enjoy, to play and to be quiet. I think the book is going to be helpful. It's by Tim Hansel.

So that's all the blab for now, I'm off to check in on all of you and to do some research on the glycemic index as well as my back problem which is called an Antero Lysisis (Or something like that).

A trip to the Zoo is planned

Yesterday I never did perk up and I'm low on energy today. I don't know what's up but it's certainly unpleasant to feel tired after sleeping all night long.

It rained off and on all day yesterday and into the night, it was wonderful. We had thunder and lightening , beautiful clouds, some sun and cool temps. I wish I could give you all a whiff of the fragrance of the air this morning. The sage brush and other plants are filling the air with a pungent scent that is aroma therapy at it's best! And it's a super clear beautiful day with the skies washed clean from all the rain.

Today I'm going to do some stuff around the house and then take Tanner to the Zoo. I made the decision this morning because it's supposed to be under 80 degrees today and so it will be pretty comfortable. He's happy about it and I think it will be fun. I plan on taking pictures too. I think I'll take my sketchbook in case he decides to play and I have time to draw.

So, that's it, now you know what I'm up to today- my plan is to make another photo essay while I'm at it.

Rainy Monday

I must have worked out too much this morning because afterward we just had lunch and then came home and I took a nap and fell into one of those deep sleeps that left me groggy. Not a real productive day so far.

We woke up to thunder and lightening this morning and it has rained off and on all day, I love days like this. It's really quite unusual for the end of June.

Holly and I had a nice time together yesterday, we went to Barnes and Noble and spent a long time browsing. After we had gathered up our arm-load each of books we settled into the coffee shop and looked at the books and chatted. We both love doing that. I bought a few books and then we just did a little shopping at Target before we met Paul and Tanner at Casa Mexico for dinner. It's so nice to have Holly home for a while, I will hate to see her go.

I guess I'd better get moving here so I won't have to say I didn't get anything done all day. Good grief I'm such a slacker :-D

Paul is taking Tanner and I out to breakfast this morning, I like that!

I think I may get time to start an abstract painting today, I've got the paper stretched and ready to go. I don't know for sure because around here we do things spontaneously and something else could come up. I am thinking about colors I want to use, I'd like to experiment with color theory which gives me a little direction and a challenge too. In fact it will be fun to get the color wheel out and give it some thought.

Yesterday I had almost the whole day to myself and I finally got tired of being by myself. Today Tanner will be with me, I missed him yesterday because he'd been with his dad for 2 days, eek!

We're leaving soon so I'm hoping to come back again.

Feeling glad it's Friday
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
So, I worked so hard on my "simple" barbeque yesterday that I was tired and had sore feet by the time we ate. Everything did turn out good though and we had a nice time. It was just perfect on the deck, warm but not hot, cool but not cold and not windy at all which is the best part. Lots of food left over too so I won't need to cook tonight.

Today I have a project to get done for the gallery and I'm feeling tired so I'm not going to work out until this evening when Paul and Dan go to rope. It's ok by me.

Thank you all for the sweet birthday wishes! I love my LJ peeps so much.

Barbeque Tonight

Barbeque Tonight
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
In honor of my wonderful Husband for Father's Day (this is the first chance) and my birthday we are going to have a nice little barbeque this evening. I bought great looking meat at Costco which we will cut up and marinate for Kabobs (with lots of mushrooms), fresh asparagus, fancy garlic bread and a really good salad (spinach, sweet onions, hearts of palm, feta cheese, bacon and sun dried tomatoes). For dessert we're having strawberries on rich buttery Madelines topped with whipped cream, doesn't that sound good?

I'm glad it's an easy to prepare menu because I've got other stuff that I want to do today also and I have one little trip to the market as well. Tanner has gone with his daddy today so that makes things easier for me.

So now you know what I'm up to today, what about you?

Did a good workout and then had other things to do, always, always running around town trying to get things done. Tanner and I got home at about 3:30 and I just took a short nap while Tanner did some math and stuff. We also did some reading of A Wrinkle in Time. This is the first time I've had a chance to post a drawing and say hi!

Holly gave me my first Moleskin today! I am so happy to get one and hope to do a drawing in there this evening. Last year was my 50th birthday and my sister and niece came from Washington and gave me a great birthday party and stayed for a week. This year it's a quiet birthday and I don't mind a bit. I'm ok with turning 51 in a simple way.

Better to see what you guys are up to.

It was 95 degrees yesterday and supposed to be at least that hot today, whew. We had almost no transition, it was so wonderful and cool and then all of a sudden we get heat. I know it's not as bad here where it's not humid but I still strongly dislike the heat. Oh well, I'm very thankful for the wonderful spring we had.

It has been a jam packed morning and I can't believe it's almost 3 pm. Good Grief, I thought it was only about 1 until I just looked at the clock.

Did the time at the gym, came home and ate lunch and then some business phone calls, some school work and reading with Tanner and here I am. Geesh.

I'm trying to get a little house work done too, it's getting out of hand again.

So in my typical rush I'm going to take a few minutes to enjoy my lj friends and then be off to get more stuff done for the day.

Forgot to say that Paul won a saddle at his team roping yesterday, he is thrilled to say the least!

Honoring black and white

Honoring black and white
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
Since I've been looking at some of my pen and ink drawings I decided that this whole week I'd show you black and white pieces.

This drawing came before the painting of house dragons. I actually like the drawing best.

Yesterday I had the best time at the gym, there weren't very many people there so I worked out in peace and then went in the pool and had the whole deep end to myself. It was so nice to just float around in there and goof off, very relaxing. After I left there I picked up Tanner who had spent the night with Holly and then we took candy over to my step dad for father's day. Mom and Tanner and I went out to Pizza Hut for lunch and visited for a while- it was nice.

We were going to do a father's day bbq today but Paul decided to go roping so we are going to do it later in the week. That leaves me pretty much alone today, haven't decided what I want to do- what needs done or what I want? Hmmm.....

I'm feeling so boring lately, I just seem to do the basics for the most part and I'm not as stimulated as I'd like to be for my art- not in a total slump but not excited either. Know what I mean? I have been drawing a lot but I think I need to paint or something to feel energized. I can't put my finger on it but there is something missing. Maybe while I'm alone today I can give it some deeper thought and figure it out.

Last night I was so frustrated with myself because I almost always have my camera with me and I had forgotten to bring it. Paul and I had a nice dinner at Joe's Crab Shack, the food was ok but the best part was that we sat by the river and it was such a beautiful sparkling evening that it almost seemed magical. After dinner we took a bit of a walk along the green belt and enjoyed the scent of the cotton woods and the other river beauty.

This morning we woke up to rain and wind! It's wonderful and we appreciate each cool day before the hot ones are here.

Today Paul will be gone roping all day and I will need to decide what I want to do with my day. Since I'm starting to make a bit of progress on my illustration project I may work on that. I'm looking forward to it actually. I also feel like going to the gym for a swim but not sure if I will, I've really been enjoying the workouts there.

Hope all of you are having a wonderful weekend!

How can it be Friday already?

This is the last completed drawing in my sketchbook, I've not been drawing in there in the evenings lately :-(

Yesterday Holly and I worked in the studio and then fixed a yummy salmon dinner which we ate on the deck. It was cloudy and just the right temperature and really nice. Then, just as we were finishing the wind whipped up and there was a bit of a storm so we rushed inside. We had strawberries and shortcake for dessert and enjoyed it thoroughly. Tonight Holly and Elton are taking Tanner to a dinner with them and then keeping him overnight- he's so thrilled.

Right now I feel so tired from my workout this morning- I feel like I could actually lay down and sleep.

Yesterday I did a little drawing for the illustrations I'm working on and also got some paper stretched for a new abstract painting in acrylic- as I had predicted there really wasn't a long time to spend in the studio but I do feel like it was productive.

This morning it was raining one of those soft summer rains when we woke up, we had the windows open and the breeze coming in smelled so fresh and good. Now it's sunny and cool, only around 70 degrees and there are big fluffy clouds piled up in the sky, it's gorgeous! It seems much more like a spring day than a summer day.

I love days like this. Of course it rained this morning because I got my car washed yesterday!

A rolling stone gathers no art time!

I did this little drawing on a very depressed day, I'm not so depressed today.

Paul and I had to leave early this morning to deliver a giclee to the gallery to be delivered so we took advantage of the opportunity and stayed for coffee on the patio. It was nice, we enjoyed it. Since then it's been another day of running around and I am ready to scream. I'm feeling like I want to stay home and do art and yet the admin stuff is taking president. Anyway, I just got home and it's almost 4 o'clock. Holly and I are planning to do some art and then we are going to have salmon for dinner. You can guess that the time for art will be shaved down to an hour or so and then we'll have to drop it for other things. Bleh. Whine, whine, whine. :-(

Maybe later this evening I can come back and check in....or maybe not.

Tanner has done his reading and is now playing nicely by himself since his little friend can't play. He's really a pretty easy child to live with.

I'm going to have to run to the framer again to drop giclees off to be stretched and framed- and do that before Kung Fu lessons. It's so nice that I had a quiet, stay at home day yesterday.

I'm so glad I don't have to worry about being bored!

This little drawing is about how trouble can start out small but multiply and get bigger and more complicated. As it gets bigger it sinks lower and lower and becomes more difficult to manage. I think the drawing is too pretty to convey that meaning.

Tanner has gone with his dad to work today and Paul left early which leaves me to be productive if possible. I've already straightened up the house, prepared the ingredients for tonight's tacos, watered the potted plants on the deck and gotten the water going in my garden. So far so good.

I'm going to take a little time to see what you guys are up to and then work on some art in my studio. My daily drawings have not been happening, I'm only getting one or two done a week lately, I'm trying not to be too frustrated about it, I guess all good things must come to an end, or at least a slow down. Anyway, I've got other projects that need to be taken care of and have priority.

It's supposed to be 90 degrees today! I guess summer was bound to get here eventually but I've enjoyed the cool spring weather so much this year I hate to see it end.

Another older "Joe" painting, this one is 12" x 9", watercolor and colored pencil.

I'm enjoying my time in the pool doing the deep water workout, fun and great exercise. It always leaves me feeling like I'd like to swim some afterward.

Today I had to do the marketing afterward and then other odds and ends. Now I'm trying to pull it together here at home, the list of things that never get finished seems endless. One big thing I need to do is fix my ebsq portfolio, I know it will take a while. I've had lots of people looking at my work there and I know it's disorganized and needs some updating and stuff. For some reason when I'm doing work on the computer I feel guilty, like I'm not doing real work and then I get all antsy. I wonder why?

Anyway, I would love to just browse and read all of the entries from my lj friends and goof off but I know I'll be sorry later. I hope I can come back later this evening. I did get time to read quite a bit last evening but not time to comment. Oh well, I'm thinking of you anyway. Hope all of you are creating up a storm and loving it!

Parades and Art Sales

Parades and Art Sales
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
This is a part of a little series that I did with little house dragons. It's from a few years ago actually. Watercolor and colored pencil on 140# cold pressed paper and 9" x 11".

I made the sale of my first of the Deluxe Edition of one of my abstracts! Yippeee, I delivered it to the gallery this morning and the buyer will be picking it up on Monday. I'm so stoked about this!

After taking the giclee to the gallery I took Tanner to the Eagle Fun Days parade. It was fun, especially for him because the end of the parade is a giant water fight with firetrucks and other vehicles squirting water and all the kids with big ole squirtguns shooting back. Tanner got drenched which was so fun for him. I'll share pics tomorrow if any turned out ok.

After that Tanner and I had lunch with Holly and Elton and then Holly and I did a bit of shopping while Elton and Tanner played chess. Now I'm going to work on some art and so is Holly.

Be back later I think.

So this morning I did my DWW (deep water workout) and then met mom and Holly and Elton at Rembrandt's for lunch. We had a nice time and good food. Then I picked up Tanner who had been with his dad and now all of us are here at my studio and going to do some work- ART! Yea! Of course it is almost 2 pm so it's a pretty late start but I'm not going to complain.

Won't have time to check in until this evening.

This is an older painting, watercolor and colored pencil. I think the size is 9" x 11". Part of the "Joe" series as you can tell.

I've got a little housework to do downstairs and that's all before my studio visit this morning. I'm tired of doing housework but really glad it's completed, it looks very nice around here. Poor Paul has been working extremely long days, he's worn ragged. We didn't stay at the picnic very long last night and he worked until about 10:30 when we got home and will jump up this morning and be at it until late tonight. Real Estate sales are like that, feast or famine. He's very good at what he does, very honest and diligent.

I hope I can come back today and report that I've made a sale, I really enjoy studio visits and getting to know new people (especially art lovers) and when they love my art enough to spend their hard earned money on it I feel honored and thrilled. The people coming today have a new house in a lovely area and I suspect the walls are bare :-D

Needing coffee to start my day today so off I go.

Working, Working!

Working, Working!
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
It's almost 4:00 and I am pooped. I did my 1 hour deep water workout this morning- it's amazingly intense! Then to the chiropractor for my free birthday visit and then home to clean house. I got the upstairs finished and it looks great but I haven't touched the downstairs which is awful and dusty and messy. I have to do downstairs since that's where my studio and office are so I may be up at 6 am tomorrow. Right now it's time to get ready to go to Paul's company picnic. We go every year and it's a lot of fun but I wish it were a different day. Why did I tell these people that they could come over at 10 am tomorrow? I guess when someone wants to see my work and says they are interested in it then I try to comply.

I'm kicking myself in the arse for not keeping up on things. Oh, and our front door is just off the deck and the deck is covered with leaves and rose petals because we had a windstorm last night- got to sweep the deck too!

I suppose I'm a nut case but I hate to have company- especially someone I've never even met and have a house that looks like a cyclone hit it. I'm a pain in the arse for sure!

BLEH!

Illustration Friday- Digital

I did this drawing in February but it fits my first idea for digital and I see that my idea is not unique or clever but nevertheless here you go.

I love seeing all the other entries for digital- our world is so big and so saturated with the digital technology that it's everywhere.

Here is the link to Illustration Friday where you can see the other entries some of which are very clever.

Another of the sad drawings, are you guys sick of looking at the sad ones? I'm tired of drawing the sad ones (even though I may like the way they turn out) and want to draw something more jovial. I've got another sad one coming but maybe that will be the last one for a while.

I was planning on being home all day today and Dan is taking Tanner with him. However, I found a message on my answering machine last night that I have a podiatrist appointment today- BOO!

My foot has been much better since I got the "killer" inserts which I have adjusted to quite well. It took about 10 days to be ok with them but now I'm fine. The problem is that I will want to wear sandals as the weather gets warmer and the inserts don't work in sandals. Hmmm....

Yesterday I picked up the 4 giclees that I am to work on for my first editions. These will be deluxe editions and each numbered piece will have been directly embellished by me.

I also have the pressing need to get things spiffied up around this place because I was contacted by a local couple who would like to come and visit my studio. I love studio visits but as you know it does require a different focus for a day or two to prepare.

This week I would like to do the story board for the little story that I am going to attempt to illustrate. This is a tall order for me because I've not done it before but it sounds fun and challenging. I hope yesterday's ice cream cone will fit in somewhere, it's so colorful and fun for a child.

Holly and Elton have gotten house-sitting jobs for most of the time they'll be home this summer! They feel so blessed and happy about it and they are really conscientious about the jobs. They are also looking for part time work but no luck so far on that.

Tanner really loves Elton and Elton is very good with him, he is teaching him to play chess. Tanner seems to love chess. Of course Tanner would like it best if H and E were staying here but I think it's probably best the way it is, Tanner wouldn't want to leave them alone if they were here.

I also wanted to let you guys know that although I've not made comments, I have been making an attempt to keep up with reading what's up with you. I miss my lj and blogging friends but my time is now taken up with all kinds of running around and other stuff :-/

K, gotta go for now.

I'll bet you guys have been posting up a storm and I've missed all the fun. At least this evening while Tanner veges out I have some time to goof off, maybe an hour or so.

It's cloudy and threatening to rain which is not good for Paul who is just leaving to go team roping. Have to think dry thoughts.

The wedding yesterday was very sweet. This couple exchanged their vows at the firestation and then everyone went to her parents lovely home for the reception. Holly and Elton and I enjoyed it and afterward just veged out.

I found a really cool site for finding hair dos, you have to pay $9.99 for a year's subscription but there are hundreds of styles. Here is the link: http://www.hair-styles-cuts-and-dos.com/ I haven't tried uploading a picture of myself to try the styles on with yet, maybe today.

Today Holly and I will be going to a wedding, I haven't been to a wedding in a long time, don't know what to expect from this couple either, I'm wondering how far from traditional it will be. I like it when weddings are not strictly traditional in terms of the costumes and decorations especially.

Paul's been working very long hours and will be working today too but he's planning on roping this evening- he needs it.

Holly is trying to help me find a hair do that is a bit more up to date while I'm growing the hair out. I've taken to wearing headbands (thin plastic type) every day because I can't make the hair look right. I have extremely thick hair, if I don't handle it just right it looks like a heavy wig so I try to wear it as simply as possible but the lines of the cut are not right anymore. I want a do that is simple and looks stylish without fussing with it. I think I'll look on some hair style sights and see what I can come up with.

I've been missing my time on-line but I'm weaning myself off a bit because I know I won't have the time all summer and also because I am less productive when I spend so much time here. Slight withdrawal so far. I still want to make a daily posting and keep track of my group of interesting peeps but I'm going to limit to every other day or just give myself a certain amount of time a day, kwim?

I guess it's time to go fix breakfast and get the day in the real world to a start.

Things are changing, I can see that I won't be able to do as much on-line as I've been doing for so long. Tanner will be starting swimming lessons on Monday and Holly and I will be doing a deep water workout also. This will be such a big change for the way my day starts out that I'm not sure what to expect of my days for a while. You know how it is when you leave first thing in the morning- the whole day is different. Then of course having the little guy home during the day will make a huge difference also. We'll see.

I'm feeling blah and not very interesting this morning, I hope to come back later with something fun or at least pretty.

Joe in the John

Joe in the John

This is an older piece, one of the "Joe" series. I've done some daily drawings but not many and I haven't taken pictures yet.

Holly and Elton are back which makes me happy! They are house-sitting for a friend of mine for almost 3 weeks, it's only about 10 miles from our house.
Today is the first summer vacation day for Tanner and he's so happy playing around here. I will be taking him to the job site where his dad's working a bit later because Dan's clients have a couple of little boys that Tanner enjoys and Dan is enjoying having the little guy with him. Then I've got to go all the way downtown to the doctor to pick up a prescription, Holly and I will go and have coffee together and then I've got to go back and get Tanner to go to his doctor for a check up! Whew. And I keep thinking I'll get to stay home for a change.

I also want to make a schedule for going to the YMCA for working out and various stuff this summer. I've been sedentary for so long with back problems and then foot problems that I feel and look like a blob. Really need a life style change in the worst way.

I've read the book on Illustrating Children's books and now I'm ready to begin the first step of laying out the sequence of images and making thumbnails. Sounds easy but it's not for me, at least not this first time.

So kids, away I go again on a busy run around kind of day. I've got a few minutes before I leave to check in and see what's up in LJ/blog land.

Illustration Friday- Envy

Illustration Friday- Envy

This is my interpretation of what envy does to people.

Phone Call Day

Phone Call Day

I got these mums last week and they are staying so nice, I love the bright yellow!

Paul has clients and they are here for the morning so I've been "entertaining" while he gets his ducks lined up. It happens to be a friend of the family who is here from California and wanting to buy here. Nice guy. So my morning has morphed and now I'm 2 hours behind on what I had planned. Oh well, I can be flexible can't I?

Now I'm trying to regroup because Tanner will be home early since it's the last day of school.

Yesterday I signed the family up to be members of the YMCA. We have a wonderful, new facility with a major amount of opportunities so this should be really fun and good for summer activities. I even got Holly and Elton in on the membership.

So for now I'm going to get moving, I've designated this to be Phone Call Day. You know how it is, sometimes you have a million phone calls to take care of and you just want it out of the way. Well, some of them are absolutely necessary too. I hope to come back later and check in with all my peeps.
