Leaving in the Morning!!!!

Leaving in the Morning!!!!

I've been so busy all day long, geesh, it's a lot of work getting ready to go on a trip. We are all ready now, even the car is loaded so we can get away early in the morning. We'll be gone for 8 days, it's the longest vacation we've ever taken in 32 years.

I hope to do some drawing, reading, soaking in the ocean views and general enjoying of the Oregon coast. I hope Tanner can sleep tonight, he's real excited.

Holly will only be here 2 days after we get back, that will be so sad to see her go. Oh well, won't think about that now.

I won't be checking in while I'm gone but I do hope all my friends have a great week! Be back on the 5th of August.

Old Work - Zinnias

Old Work - Zinnias

I'm still limping around with sore foot and leg- so frustrated. I do think my deep water workout helped though. Getting things done this morning so I can do a wee bit of shopping tomorrow for a few things we need. I'm also feeling a bit frustrated because I've made so much change in my eating as well as exercise and I think I should be loosing weight a bit faster. Boo. Oh well, I'm still happy with the changes and I know I'm healthier for them too.

I think I have a bit of time this morning to at least peek into my lj friends list and see what's up!

Old Work

Old Work

I think this is one of my first abstract watercolor paintings. When I look at it now I still kind of like it, especially the colors. It's from 1993!

It has been such a long day today! After church I went with Paul to a clients house and they happen to be having a garage sale. I got a wonderful deal on a really nice espresso machine that grinds the beans, measures them out and makes great shots with ease. It had only been used once, had been $475 from Starbucks in 1995 (she had the reciepts and all parts) and I got it for $85!!!! It's one of my all time best garage sale finds.

When we got home I had to start doing laundry and stuff to get ready for our trip and I've been on my feet most of the day. My feet are killing me because yesterday I played racket ball with Tanner and hurt the poor bone spur/ plantar faciitis foot pretty bad. I haven't confessed to Paul because it was such a stupid thing for me to do. It was lots of fun until I felt something in that foot tear or give out in some way. It was like a knife jabbed into the heal and it's not stopped hurting much since. Geesh, I'm such a dork! I'll be icing off and on all evening.

So tomorrow I'll be doing the same as today, getting ready to go. Still not spending more than a few minutes on the computer each day, just too busy. I suppose realistically it will be a couple weeks before I have time to get back into catching up.

Paul got up early and is gone to get his new tractor, he is very pleased and will have fun with it as well as doing some work that he's been putting off.

I am up early also and ready to go to the "Y" and possibly to do some yard sales with my mom if she's up to it. Don't want to wait too long or it will be too hot again.

Last night Holly and Elton and I played Scrabble, it was fun and mellow.

I'm looking forward to getting away to the coast, this year we plan to stay right in Cannon Beach the whole time, to just hang out and relax. I'll be taking my sketchbook of course and I'm really looking forward to that. The next few days will be pretty busy getting organized and tying up all the loose ends before we leave on Wednesday morning.

Remember when I was talking about hypoglycemia and my diet? Well, I've been trying not to eat sugars and simple carbohydrates ever since and it has really helped me to be free of the "hungries". I've felt better, not wanted to eat nearly so often and I've lost 10 pounds too! I'm pretty amazed at the difference in my appetite and now I'm sort of scared to eat sugar in case I get super hungry. I've still got quite a ways to go but this is a tremendous start.

Did I mention that the gallery sold another giclee this week? I was thrilled and the lady who bought it contacted me and said she is thrilled with it. She said she's bringing her advanced placement art students into the gallery to see my work. I'm so honored.

It is still hotter than Hades here, I hate heat! I did have a nice time going out to lunch with my good friend and framer, Karen. Then I did a quickie Costco Run. I missed having my mom with me this time but when I called her this morning she was feeling a bit lousy so I didn't even ask. Hopefully she'll be up for going to garage sales in the morning if it's not too bloody hot.

Been feeling a bit low today, dunno why but I suspect it's more a problem of picking up the feelings of those around me than my own issues. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. I missed my workout today and going tomorrow will certainly give me a lift.

No time again today to be on-line and keeping up with LJ friends. Hope you are all creating up a storm!

A Freak Bowling Game!

A Freak Bowling Game!
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
I wish this picture were more crisp but I like it anyway. The sun was shining through this bunch of hydrangeas and it made them look like they glowed.

Such a busy day today and still have the rodeo to go to tonight.

I've been taking Tanner bowling once a week and I bowl too on these outings. Remember, the first week I fell down and was so embarrassed? Well besides that I'm just a really lousy bowler but I do enjoy it. Well this week I had a freak game that was so amazing, I bowled 7 strikes in one game!!!! That's right, and 5 of them were in a row too. Actually I bowled one for Tanner right after my game and it was a strike so I got 6 strikes in a row!!!! It was a freak game but it was fun!

My next game was more my speed, I think my score was 118. Oh well, the freak game was fun.

It's well over 105 here today and it's humid for our area, it's really nasty out there. Geesh I hate the heat so much, I hate feeling all sticky icky.

I've not even had time to catch up with my on-line friends for days, I guess it will be a marathon of reading when I finally get to it. Hope you are all well.

I don't remember if I showed you this early 90's painting? At that time I did a whole series of TP paintings, they were so fun to do and got a lot of attention because people didn't expect to see this subject. Strictly watercolor, this was before my tried other mediums.

Last night we had a good time at the rodeo, we had really great seats and the action was good and moved quickly. I think Tanner enjoyed it better than he ever has. Tonight we'll be there again with Holly and Elton this time. Tonight I'll bring my camera, I was so sorry I didn't do that last night.

Yesterday I had hours of running around to do in town but part of it included a 1 hour massage that felt like heaven. Wow, I didn't know I could relax that much and not be asleep. It was a gift from Holly that I had been hanging onto for a very long time.

For now Tanner and I will be going to the "Y" and I'm hoping to get back here a bit later. I've checked in on you guys but not had time to comment, sorry. I think I'll be more regularly involved when school starts again.

Hanging out with Holly this evening. I did my workout, took Tanner to dentist, did a bit of shopping earlier. I'm so tired from my workout that I feel like sleeping but we are going to go out on the deck and draw instead. It's hot but should be cooling down soon.

I did the Everyday Matters challenge last night, drew my own foot. I'll post it tomorrow. Nothing much else, just summer busy-ness.

Remember Winter?

Remember Winter?
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
Just a little reminder to those of us that are too hot this summer, winter will return and then we'll be too cold!

This morning I'm going to hang out around the house while Paul goes roping again, I have a few things to get taken care of and I'm waiting for a phone call. I saw an antique dining set yesterday and I can't get it out of my mind, I'm hoping I can see it again today and decide if I really want it. In one way it sounds crazy to me, I don't have antiques, in another way I think the eclectic way of decorating can be really great.

Tanner and I will be hanging out together all day I guess.

Last night we went to a Thai restaurant called Sa-Wa-Dee and I got to have green curry, I love green curry and usually Paul won't go there because he doesn't know what to order. Last night he gave in and both he and Tanner got food that they loved.

I guess I've taken a break from doing art, I seem to be pre-occupied with other things and not getting to it so I'm not letting it bug me. I think I'm in a healthy place right now- re-fueling and enjoying life for a while. I do enjoy painting too but it just seems right to be doing other things right now. Of course I'll still be drawing regularly and messing with my illustration project, but not painting or making mosaics.

Ok, off to do some other stuff now, have a great weekend!

Let me say first of all that this cowboy and this horse (Paul and Dooly) won the team roping today!!!!! Paul won almost $900 bucks and he'll have a spot at the Snake River Stampede too. Cool huh? I'm proud of my cowboy.

It's still hotter than Hades here, yesterday it was around 104 or more, today around 100 and now there's a strong wind so it feels like a blast furnace. Bleh. However, this morning I decided at the last minute to go to a big neighborhood garage sale, Holly and Elton joined me, then we ran into some other friends from our contemplative group and hung out with them. After lunch with those friends I went to the "Y' and then picked Tanner up from his mom and he and I went to watch Paul win the roping. It's been a nice day and pretty soon we're going out to eat because Paul's got winnings to spend.

Yesterday I spent the day alone until I remembered that there was an opening at Drop Leaf Gallery for a sculptor Tom Brewitz. I called a friend and we hung out there for a while and then met Holly and Elton at another local place, hung out there for a while and then returned to Rembrandt's and Drop Leaf Gallery where we spent an hour or so on the patio visiting with Tom and enjoying ourselves. It was nice.

So, it's 7:00 PM and this is my first chance to post today. I've been busy with life away from the computer these days. Opps, Paul's calling, time to go eat!

I don't care for grass hoppers, they jump every which way and are unpredictable and besides they are ugly (maybe the tiny green ones are kinda cute). Never-the-less, this guy was just outside my front door on one of my plants and the light was right for a good picture so he got photographed. I don't like the subject matter but I like the photo so I'm sharing.

So it cost me $151 to have the Sears guy come out and check some appliances (stove, dishwasher) and tell me that my microwave is dead. Now it will be another $250 for a new microwave. I guess it's just part of life, some things break and have to be replaced but I hate spending money in this way. I do miss my microwave though, have gotten dependent on it.

Tanner is with his Dad today and later will be going with his mom so I'm foot loose. There are many things I could do but not sure what I want to do with this day yet. I have already done my workout, did that early. I have to stay here for a while to wait for someone to come and pick up the queen bed that we don't need anymore. (Our church does an amazing job of helping people who are in need so they are taking it) It's supposed to be at least 101 degrees so I don't really care to go out and work in the yard, don't want to sit around and not very inspired to do art today. Hmmmm...... this is rare, I'll think of something.

I've got tons of books waiting to be read, maybe this is a reading day.... and of course I can check up on all of my LJ friends to see what's going on.

Chipper and Excited

Chipper and Excited
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
Thankfully I'm feeling more rested and good this morning :-D Yesterday I decided to take Tanner to the "Y" and since I was there I did some workout, afterward I was like a deflated baloon- I hate that feeling. Anyway today I'm good again. We are going to do some things here and later go bowling. I'm going to be careful not to fall again, I don't think my poor old body can take hitting the floor like that once a week :-/

It didn't get to 105 degrees yesterday, only in the 90s somewhere and I think it's supposed to be the same today.

Yesterday I booked our place to stay in Cannon Beach!!!!!! I can't express how excited I am to be going back this year. Last year we had 5 days and this year we've upped it to 7 days and we are staying in Cannon Beach the whole time this year. We leave the 27th so it's just around the corner. And, Paul ordered the new Harry Potter book on CDs for me for my birthday, it should be here before we go and we'll listen to it on the trip. It's making me all giddy just writing about it! Tanner is super excited too, he had such a wonderful time last year and loves the ocean too.

So I'm off to see what's up in cyber world!

This morning I woke up with that tired feeling like I didn't get enough sleep, I hope I snap out of it soon. I worked out Monday and Tuesday so I'm not going to do that today unless it's an easy one and I have to go to town for some other reason. It's supposed to be 105 degrees and the air conditioner was on when we woke up- I suspect it could get even hotter. I strongly dislike the heat- I'm so thankful for a cool house and good AC in my car. There is yard work to be done but it sure won't get done today.

Yesterday I had a little time to work on my illustration project and I hope to do more of that today. I'm super slow but I'm learning and I'm glad to be working on art in some form. It's so new to me to do this "real" illustration that when I make just the tiniest bit of progress it feels good! I know that if I ever do a second project it will be much easier.

Cya later peeps!

Illo Friday- Cosmopolitan

Illo Friday- Cosmopolitan
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
I live outside the city of Boise, Idaho and outside of the small town of Eagle, Idaho. We live in the country and are not very cosmopolitan ourselves. However, last March I visited my daughter who is living in Chicago while attending the School of the Art Institute there. That place is very cosmopolitan if you ask me. While at the grocery store one night we saw this fascinating guy the likes of whom I've not seen in our neck of the woods, he's a cool cat, a jazz musician of the vintage type. I drew him when I got back to my daughter's apartment and he is my offering for the theme this week. His hair which was actually grayish yellow was in a little "sausage roll" all the way around, like it had been carefully curled with an old fashioned curling iron, that was the most interesting part to me. He was a rare bird and I'd like to see more of his kind around Boise. This guy was my idea of cosmopolitan!

I've almost disappeared from Cyber Space :-(

It's true, I've been gone so much that I've not had time to return to my computer after posting my morning images.

Yesterday after all my errands and meeting with a friend I went with Paul and Dan so I could get their practice roping on video so they could see what they are doing right and wrong. It was hot and dusty but it made them very happy for me to go along. Now they want me to go again a video from a different angle. Boo.

Right now I'm about ready to take off for the "y" but I plan on being home this afternoon. I need to stay home for a change...and it would be refreshing to have a chance to do some art too. For this reason I am looking forward to school starting again.

So anyway, I will be back when I get a breather, I am wondering about what all of you are up to these days.

What Saturday was like

What Saturday was like
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
Here you see another of my duds- no happy, fun look, in fact these guys look like they've got the "dead eye stares" don't they?. Still, I like the illustration for other reasons.

Yesterday Tanner and I left early to go to garage sales with a dear friend. We had a nice time and got a few treasures and managed to use up the day until noon with that activity. Then we came home and got our stuff for the pool and gym at the "Y" and spent a couple of hours there. It had been a cool day that was perfect for the garage sales and when we came out of the "Y" it was raining like mad! This was a rare July day here in Idaho. We went from the "Y" to meet Holly and Elton at Rembrandt's where Elton and Tanner played scrabble and Holly and I visited and looked at Art In America magazines. When we got home I left Tanner with Dan and I went with Paul to show property way out in the country and by the time he was finished we ate tacos on the way home and didn't get back until 11 pm. Poor Paul had been working with various clients since 8 AM- he was so tired and ready for a break. While Paul was busy with the last clients I sat in the car and cleaned out my purse and also did another drawing in my moleskin. He loves it when I go with him like that, he needs the company sometimes when he has to be out late. Overall it was a nice but very busy day that ended late.

Today my cousin is coming over and we will probably just go to lunch somewhere and then just hang out unlit she has to go to the airport. My mom will come over too.

Right now it's time to get ready for church so I guess I'd better move along.

I didn't have time to get to my computer yesterday and not sure if I'll get back today, we'll see. Geesh summer is a busy time!

Just call me Grace

Just call me Grace
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
This is one of the doodle pages that I decided to color after.

I missed my early workout this morning so I'm going in a little later and then meeting one of my dearest friends for coffee afterward. My friend is in the doctorate program at Boise State University and her time is precious. I rarely see her any more and she's been doing summer school this year so I'm snagging her just as she's finished and before she leaves to see her kids in Alaska.

Yesterday I had one of those "most embarrassing" moments. I hadn't bowled in about 20 years but decided to bowl with Tanner and his friend Judah. On my first try I stepped over the line into the ally just slightly and onto the oiled alley. I went down like a thud with knees together and legs from the knee down at opposite angles. Oh let's say it wasn't graceful and it was totally dorky. Now my knee is tweaked a bit and my hamstring is sore but otherwise it was my pride that took the greatest hit. I do wish I had a picture because I think there was some mad scrambling for footing before I went down that made it look rather cartoonist. Just call me grace.

Oops, gotta run or I'll be late....

Over the Hump day

Over the Hump day
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
So, today I'll be home until around 1:00 when I leave to take Tanner bowling. A friend of mine has a great kid that's about Tanner's age and they are friends, we're going together. Hopefully this morning will be a time of getting things done. Right now there is a queen sized bed in my studio, the one we replaced with the twin beds and I've got to get it out of here somehow. I've got a plan to call a place that helps people in crisis and see if they would be able to use it. I hate it when anything like that is cluttering up my studio even if I'm not using my studio at the time.

Holly and I went to a Body Shop party last night, I really don't care for that kind of sales thing where you feel obligated to buy and are encouraged to book a party of your own to help the hostess out. I only went for Holly's sake and I won't do it again. I bought a couple of things but I'm not that impressed with the products and anyway I didn't need any of that stuff. It was fun to meet some of the people there and to be with Holly.

I'm off to check in on you guys- geesh, what a busy and creative bunch of people, very inspiring!

Back to the daily drawings

Back to the daily drawings
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
I have been drawing (not as often) but I haven't been showing them because I've been frustrated. I'm trying to do illustrations for a story about a grandpa and his grandson and a fun day they had. It's not flowing and I'm not feeling as creative as I want to be. I'm not giving up but not happy with what I've come up with so far. This one didn't even get colored because the people don't look happy enough. Also, this is my first stab at creating characters and repeating the characters in different positions and expressions. I know the solution to my dilemma about how I should do this will come to me but it's not happening fast. Bah!

In the mean time, life continues to heat up- I mean summer is upon us and I'm sure it's up around the high nineties out there today. I really dislike hot weather but we had such a wonderful, cool spring and early summer that I don't dare complain. One swell thing about the heat is the way the crops around here smell as you drive by. There are potatoes (duh, this is Idaho), sugar beets, grain, corn and the best is peppermint and spearmint. I like the way the fields smell when they are being irrigated but especially the mints, it's super aroma therapy. I'm also very thankful for air conditioning in both car and home.

Today after my workout Tanner wanted me to play a game of pool with him so I took the time to do that. Heck it had been 20 years or more since I've tried to play pool and I felt like a fool but it was fun anyway. When we got home we were so hungry that we ate immediately and then I got all tired and decided to take a nap (that makes me feel like a slacker) So now it's 2:30 and I'm feeling behind. Oh well, it all waits doesn't it?

I'm cutting my time short here in cyber space so I can spend it in my kitchen doing the never-ending jobs that are always waiting there.

Random Thoughts for the day

Random Thoughts for the day
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
So, have you seen lots of firework pictures yet?

We had a lovely time last evening, enjoyed people, enjoyed fireworks.

This morning I woke up feeling rested and chipper and I'm getting things done today. First stop when I leave will be the "Y" where I'll work out and then Tanner and I will take a swim. Then I'm going to Costco for a few items that seem necessary and then home for the afternoon.

Random thoughts:

I've been having time alone, been kind to myself, been eating right and exercising and trying to be less stressed and I feel like it's paying off. I feel like my emotional tank is refilling a little after running on empty for years. I sure hope this trend continues.

I've got quite a few drawings to show but I don't have time to get them onto my computer this morning, I'll try and do that this afternoon.

Being an artist is such a great way to avoid boredom don't you think? I have got a million ideas for projects and things I want to do running through my mind all the time. Geesh, a lifetime is not long enough to be an artist.

I'm looking forward to the school year starting again because then I have more time to actually stay in my studio and do art instead of just thinking about it.

For now, Tanner and I are hanging out together a lot and I do realize that this is a precious time that can't be relived. He'll never be this age again.

I love my digital camera so much, I take it with me everywhere and guard it very carefully. What a change digital cameras have made in our lives huh?

Fractured Face

Fractured Face
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.

I loved doing these, way fun!

I don't know why I couldn't sleep in this morning, it seems like I should have been able to since I was up early, real busy most of the day and didn't go to bed until after midnight. Oh well, I'll probably need a nap later.

Yesterday I flew around the house and got a lot of housework done- whew, that feels better. Now this morning we are going to pick up a pair of twin beds that we bought for our quest room. I've wanted twins so we could accommodate more guests. We've had a queen bed in there and as you know sometimes people are not comfortable sleeping together. So we'll do that and I'll get the room set up and then I'm going to meet Holly and Elton downtown for lunch and go with them while they get hair cuts. The reason I'm going with them is to look at styles for myself in case I want to make a change. Right now my hair is in yet another dorky looking "stage" of growing out and I may be able to improve on it.

Last night I drew in my moleskin- back to the kind of drawings that are about the activities of the day, it was nice to draw after a couple of days off. We also watched a movie called "Paycheck". It was Paul's choice but seemed pretty interesting.

Just remembered that I left water running in the yard ALL NIGHT! Doh!

Stepping away from the computer (not easy)

Another sneaky coffee lover!

I got up early and started my workout at 7:45 today, I loved it and would like to do that every time but unfortunately it doesn't work with the family schedule very well most of the time.

Yesterday I spent most of the day right here in front of my computer and I just can't do that today- there are so many other things calling to be done. So, I'm outta here. I need my living space cleaned in order to feel happy.
