Our Filly

Our Filly
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
Today as soon as I got home from the "Y" we left to go see how the filly is doing at the trainer. She's been there since August 11th so it's not been long but we were really impressed with how she's doing. Much more relaxed and paying attention to what she's asked to do. The trainer and this little gal that rides too are both feeling real good about her progress. Isn't she a cutie?

Other than that I've been an absolute drip today, way too tired and sluggish. I don't know what's up but it sure is keeping me from being very productive.

Yesterday was Tanner's first Soccer practice so we did that and then went out for Mexican food at our favorite place, by the time we got home it was time for a bath and bed for Tanner. The days are very full for this little guy when he's got school and sports but he loves soccer and does pretty well at it. We've already started on homework and tight school schedule.

Hi

Hi

Been running around all day since I put Tanner on the bus. I seem to have a million errands when I'm already out and it's taking up my time. I need to go to the gym really early and then come home so I can get something done around here. Oh well, Tanner will be home in an hour and then I'll need to see to him.

Today while I was eating a sandwich at Subway I noticed a little used furniture store across the street so I wandered in to have a look. I found a cute little china cabinet which I purchased but couldn't bring home because Paul wasn't with me and it's too heavy for me. I have my pretty cobalt blue dishes and some other stuff on a book shelf right now and I've been wanting a cabinet that has glass doors so I don't have to dust that stuff so often and this one goes well with my dining set and fits the bill. Plus it was only $150 so how could I go wrong? Don't know when Paul will be able to help me get it.

Now it's 3 o'clock and I'm tired and want to take a nap- drat- the days fly by don't they? I'm not going to worry about it, I'm in the mood to do what I want today.

Tanner got up happy and trotted off to school in a positive mood this morning. I'm looking forward to meeting his teacher and so happy to be in a regular routine. I've done my workout and now I'm ready to work on a list of chores to take care of. Sending a package to Holly is on top of the priority list.

I don't have anything newsy, I didn't sleep well and so I'm in a bit of a funk. Looking forward to the weather cooling, we had a 99 degree day yesterday and even broke a record for that date. Geesh, it's time to cool off already. I'm off to get things done in spite of being tired.

Home again, Home again, Jiggety Jog!

And so glad to be home. It was just a trip, not particularly fun at all really. Paul roped every steer but his healers missed so he didn't win a thing, oh well it is a gamble.

But really, a couple of days is a long time to sit in bleachers and watch roping. I did crossword puzzles and did some drawing but overall I was not in the mood to be there so I got a bit cranky and impatient.(Not to Paul, just to myself) I think part of the problem was noise in the building from huge fans that helped keep us from cooking but made it so noisy that eventually I felt like running out of there. Tanner was a very busy guy and he had a blast with other kids there so that was nice.

We are such dorks, when we got there we realized that we had left our suitcase at home on the bed all packed and ready to go!!!! Arg, we had to go to Wally World (the only place to shop in Winnemucca) and buy clothes for each of us as well as bathing suits. Luckily we did have our overnight bag or we would have had some real problems. (Medicines and stuff were in there) We were feeling pretty silly about leaving the suitcase but in the end it all worked out ok. Tanner and I played Scrabble while on the road which was fun and good for him, he's getting better and better at it!

So by now I've got everything unpacked and put away, Paul is out on an appointment and Tanner has gone goofing off with Dan. I've finally responded to a ton on e-mails and taken the time to post this little update. I've got everything ready to get Tanner off to school tomorrow and start the new routine, happily! It's been such an long and busy summer.

I've finished my upstairs cleaning, reorganizing and will begin in the office after my workout tomorrow, downstairs should be much easier and quicker than upstairs was. After that I'm going to work on financial stuff, doggedly until it's done and then........... I can do some art! I've got a goal and I'm working toward it. I want to have some time to do some art before the holidays force their way upon me along with the wedding and stuff. I've got to be single minded or I'll be in a muddle.

That's all for now, hopefully I'll have some time to check in again soon :-D

I've been able to do a wee bit of drawing in the late evenings, I have no idea where these goofy images come from but they appear in my moleskin as I doodle :-D

So.... It is amazing what a person can accomplish when they don't get on the computer! I've been getting things done, spending time with Tanner and generally staying super busy. So busy that I just drop at about 9:30 or 10 at night when I have my drawing time. Yesterday I gutted all my kitchen cabinets and pantry, cleaned, rearranged, polished all the cabinets (cherry looks great polished) mopped the floor, cleaned the stove etc. While I did that I had a guy cleaning my windows inside and out and all the 2 inch blinds. He did a wonderful job and was here from about 8 am until 5:30. When he left I showered and went to the market. Geesh, it was a long, long day but the feeling of accomplishment was wonderful to say the least.

This morning I got up and did my workout, stopped at Target for a couple of items for Tanner and now I'm home and will be packing stuff to go. Poor Paul is swamped as usual and getting more stressed by the minute. It's very hard for realtors to get away and his assistant is gone this weekend too. Poor cowboy. He'll feel better when we drive out of the driveway.

My most exciting news is that Elton has proposed to Holly, she's accepted and we will be having a wedding during the Christmas holiday!!!!! It will have to be simple and inexpensive but will be full of joy because these two are soul mates.

Ok, I've got to apologize, I have not had time to even respond to e-mails or comments for days. I'm sorry. School starts Monday though and my schedule will be, well, more like a regular schedule. I've missed checking in with you guys- don't give up on me.

Gotta run.......

Living the busy life

Living the busy life
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
So life is full of busy-ness, workouts in the pool, house work, bowling, schoolwork with Tanner, shopping, drawing some- the usual. I don't really having anything to report these days.

We will leave Friday to go to the "big" town of Winnemucca, Nevada for Paul to rope. It's something we do each year and he really enjoys it. We'll be in a hotel with a pool which will be fun for Tanner. I always take my sketchbook, reading material and this year the Scrabble game to keep myself entertained. Honestly it's a little too much roping for my taste but Paul loves it when we go with him and I will tape his runs. Hopefully there will be some good photo opportunities over the weekend because I will take my digital and try to have fun with that too.

I've got stuff to do now but I'm hoping to come back to my computer tonight and catch up a bit and spend some time responding to e-mail and comments.

I'm peaking in to say hi while I've got a minute. Actually I'm taking a minute because I'm so tired. I've been continuing with the cleaning and it is a slow process to do it right. I've just started on the kitchen which of course will take the longest. I've filled my Honda CRV 3 times so far and taken stuff to the Idaho Youth Ranch and Salvation Army. Geesh, I ask myself what I was thinking when I bought some of the stuff that I'm now getting rid of.

I also scheduled a guy to come and clean the windows inside and out and the blinds too. (I have 2 inch wood blinds on all my windows and they are coated with dust.)

So, you can see that I'm getting a lot done while staying away from the computer. Still doing my deep water fitness at the "Y" too. Tanner and I went and bought his schools supplies today after going to the "Y", he loves doing that. He also had a friend over today which enabled me to get more done. Whoo Hooo, I'm on a roll!

The only problem is that I've not been sleeping all that well. It seems like if it's not me being uncomfortable for some reason then it's some odd ball thing like our fax phone ringing in the night. That's what happened last night- twice! I have no idea what's up with that, maybe just a wrong number or something. So after working my buns off yesterday I didn't sleep well last night. Boo hoo, don't you feel sorry for me? JK- I'm just being a whiner. I've been drawing late in the evening while we listen to Harry Potter on audio cds for 30 minutes. Yep, that's about all the time we can get to listen but we are enjoying it. (We've gone back to book 5 after listening to book 6 while on our vacation.)

Well, that's all I've been up to, not exciting but very productive. I'll check in again when I get a chance/need a break.

Thanks to all of you who commented on my new hair color- you guys are so sweet. I am happy with the blonder look, can't wait till it gets longer so I can do some things with it.

Today I'm going to try to get a couple more rooms done. It takes quite a while since I'm doing closets and cabinets but it will be nice when it's finished. I am so glad that my studio and art storage room are in pretty good order.

I drew last night again which makes me feel good. I've got a few e-mails to reply to so I'd better get moving before the guys wake up and decide they need fed.

Hope your weekend is lovely.

Blonder

Blonder
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
Just got back from the salon. I like the color I got and I'm glad my hair is growing out but I hate looking like I'm 50. (Never mind that I really am 51!) Still, I know in about 6 more months I'll be happy with my hair and that makes me very thrilled. Right now I wear clips or headbands to keep it off my face which helps me get by.

Now I'm off to do more housework, just wanted to show you my progress.

Finally a drawing- and checking in

I've not been drawing a whole lot, well, at least not a drawing a day these days. This one is about the sore heel with the bone spur, I think I did it about a month ago.

I've been taking a break from my computer and staying real busy. I've been keeping up with my workouts and have lost about 15 pounds and learned that eating a higher protein diet without sugars I don't feel hungry all the time, it's really wonderful! I feel like I have the healthiest attitude toward weightloss that I've ever had. *grin*

I've also been doing review on math with Tanner so he will be ready for fourth grade and we've been playing Scrabble regularly as well as bowling and general daily things.

It's been a very busy summer and I am ready for school to start. Soccer starts real soon too so busy-ness will not end.

Things have gotten out of control here in my house, I've let things get disorganized and shabby and it's been bothering me for several months so I've made a decision to take the time out of my life to get it back in order. I started today by cleaning out the cabinets in the bathrooms, throwing lots of stuff away and cleaning thoroughly. It's a start. It's so strange how things accumulate that never get used and end up cluttering up drawers and cabinets- why do we keep stuff we don't even like or need?

I have a friend who will be participating in a big neighborhood yard sale in October so I am saving things to take there. It feels good to get rid of stuff I don't need. I am actually going to give myself until the beginning of November to get things in my life in order- I'm not even thinking of doing any painting or art besides drawing until then.

It's not just the house but financial organization that needs done so it will take me some time. I feel good about my decision.

Right now I've got to run, I'm going to get more blonde in my hair today!

I miss my on-line friends but I feel very strongly that less time here will mean more time for some important things in my life that I've been neglecting. I'm not leaving for good, just won't be around as much.

I'm off to do math review with the Sniggler. (aka- Tanner or T-boy)

Beautiful Weed?

Last night Tanner and I went with Paul to a Century Roping. This is a roping where the ages of each of the partners must equal 100 when added together. Paul roped every steer but one, his partners all missed or only got one leg so he didn't get any money. Oh well. It was too long, we were there for hours. Tanner and I played Scrabble though and Dan and his friend Shauna were there for a while which helped. We didn't get home until after midnight and then I didn't sleep well so today I'm dragging.

I guess because I'm so tired I've got that overwhelmed feeling again. Boo.

A Fuzzy Bee

A Fuzzy Bee
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
It's been a very busy day! Paul and I decided to do lots of stuff in the yard and got spraying done, moving rocks, I learned how to drive the 4-wheeler, more spraying (for bugs this time), cleaning up the deck and storing the extra furniture that we don't use, general clean-up and that kind of thing. It wasn't a scorcher today so that was in our favor. Now I'm tired in the good way and yet I still have some household things to do.

Tanner and I were looking for bugs and found this beautiful and very colorful bee working away collecting pollen from my zinnias- isn't he cool? He just wouldn't pose for me or I would have gotten him from another angle. I wish I had one of those lenses that lets me take super, duper close ups. Zinnias are one of my favorite flowers, I just love the vivid colors and the flowers last a long time too.

Ok, so that's my day so far, I think we'll run out to our favorite Mexican restaurant and then settle in and watch a movie tonight.

Yard Sale Finds

Yard Sale Finds
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
First some eye candy for you- a pastel that sold long ago on ebay. This one was pure playing fun.

Today I stopped by this yard sale as I was on my way home from town and I hit a bonanza! I don't know how the guy got all the stuff he had, I know he had worked at Comp USA which has recently gone out of business so maybe there. Anyway, I got a wonderful brand new, never opened set of National Geographic on CD, it's a collector's edition of the first 112 years- every magazine, every article, every picture and all easily searchable and printable! It's fantastic for me and for Tanner. I also got another brand new/never opened National Geographic game called Trivia Trek- It's a wonderful game that Tanner and I can play together. I got a brand new AIWA Boom box (still packaged) CD player, double casset player with all the bells and whistles and 4 brand new videos- all for $70. My old boom box was just giving up the ghost.

Was that a stroke of luck or what?

So again I've been side-tracked today, but what fun :-D

I've worked out, gone to the market, visited with my mom and her husband and goofed off on the computer and had a good time.

Last night Paul and I went way out in the country to show some property and decided that we were too close to some friends of ours to miss seeing them. We called and they said come on over so we did. They have a ranch and raise rodeo bucking bulls, it's quite interesting they have about 100 mother cows with calves plus I don't know how many bulls. We had a margarita together on their from porch overlooking the Owyhee Mountains and then went out together for dinner. We didn't even eat until about 10 pm but we didn't mind, we had a nice visit.

I've been a good parent and done some review school work with T-boy today and we read out loud together so tonight I think I'll go out and prune a few of my massive rose bushes. It's cooled down to the high 80's and that is such a relief.

Over and Out!

That's what I call this gal. She's done in pastel and I did her a year or two ago.

Today after my workout I went with Paul to see our little filly who has now had a month at the trainers. She's doing great, such a pretty little horse- she's only been ridden less than 20 times so we are not sure how good a horse she'll be yet but so far she seems smart and full of p#&* and vinegar!

We also had lunch together and then came home where I promptly got tired and took a nap. I don't know why I didn't sleep well last night, I was still awake well after 1 am though and the phone rang this morning around 6:30 am. Right now I'm enjoying a wonderful fresh peach smoothie that I just made myself and taking a few minutes to post and check in on my computer. Later I'm going with Paul because he's going to show some property that is way out in the country. Overall it's a very unproductive day for me.

Well, I know this is not much excitement to offer but it's my life right now. Sure hope my blogging/live journal friends are having more excitement in their lives!

Low Key Day

Low Key Day
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
This is an older pastel piece, I really like it and it makes me want to get the pastels out. Unfortunately I've not been doing any art besides a wee bit of drawing. It's always this way in the summer but this year it's even worse. I've got huge lists of things to be done , financial, household, yard, school review for Tanner, deep cleaning and organizing and on and on. But what's happening is very little. I'm like a deer in the headlights- stuck. I've never ever been this behind before. I can easily fill each day with stuff that is optional and not very productive but don't seem to settle to do what screams to get done. I'm honestly baffled. I need my arse kicked.

I've not been on my computer much at all either, just done quick check ins and then I've been off again in my dorky muddle. Hmmmmm.

Tanner's Birthday Today

Tanner's Birthday Today
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
And he's so excited that this is how he's making me feel this morning! He popped out of bed before 7 am and has been on "wired" ever since. At least he's got a sweet attitude along with the wired state. We will be leaving soon to go buy a certain game that he's been wanting and later lunch and bowling with his good friend and then his mom will pick him up and she's going to do a little birthday something for him tonight.

Paul and I will be going out and spending some time alone while T-boy is gone, we are looking forward to it.

So, my day is not my own today and I'll be busy with a nine year old all day long. Nine, dang, it seems like it was just yesterday that I was changing his diapers and rocking him to sleep. I miss the baby but I think he's at a nice age now.

I don't dare stay on my computer long, he's about to explode and we need to be moving to keep things from unraveling :-D

Holly has left

Holly has left
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
Holly and Elton have left to go back to Chicago. Yes, I'm feeling so sad. I am glad they were here for most of the summer though.

Yesterday we just hung out together and then had a great salmon dinner and birthday cake for her and Tanner. Tanner's birthday is Tuesday and he'll be nine, Holly's birthday is Sept. 8th, she'll be 30. She would have sold her soul for an ipod so we saved her the trouble and got her one, it was a surprise and she was thrilled. Elton didn't waste any time down loading the newest Harry Potter book to it and they will be having fun with it on the way back to school. Holly will have the thing filled up with music in no time I'm sure.

So, now it's back to the grindstone for sure. I am looking forward to fall, school starting, shorter days and most of all cooler days. It's been scorching hot here and I strongly dislike the heat. I don't want to go out for any reason when it's hot. I'm also looking forward to having more time to concentrate on art- it's been way to long since I painted and I miss it.

I've done a little checking in on my lj friends but no commenting, I will be able to do more of that when school starts too.

Sea Gulls

Sea Gulls
Originally uploaded by Sheila Hudson.
So, we're back. We had a wonderful time and it was hard to leave the Oregon coast and come back to the heat here. My heart is always there, I love it.

Holly will only be here 2 more days so I am spending time with her and will not be getting much done on the computer until Monday or so. Still, I wanted to say hi and post this beautiful image. Tanner was feeding the sea gulls and I got this shot as they hung in the air waiting to catch the food.
