I'm still around...

I'm still around...

Yes, I'm still around but not on the computer for fun much these days. I've been working with Microsoft Money and that's been about all the computer time I get in.

Here is a little update on what's been going on here in Eagle, Idaho:

I've lost a total of 60 pounds and now trying to stabilize, it's been wonderful and I don't think I'll ever go back, my health, my energy level my self image and the whole works are all so much better off now. I'm still working out in the Deep Water Aerobics group 3 days a week and I walk with my dear Paul on at least one day, I'm very strong and can play baseball or whatever with Tanner any time I want now. If anyone needs encouragement then just ask, I can share loads of enthusiasm.

I'm excited that the whole family will be together this summer, my son had been gone for about 2 1/2 months but is now home and Holly and Elton will be home next week. We are all so excited, we feel like celebrating. I'd never been away from either of my kids that long before.

Paul, Tanner and Daniel are building a fort together, a nice sized place for Tanner that I'm sure he'll enjoy so much. It's such a neat project to see them working on and they are teaching Tanner some things about building as they go along. I'm going to be taking pictures of the progress so we will always have those memories saved to look back on.

I'm still working on the simplification process, it's very slow and sometimes feels impossible but I have made a little progress. We've now got a budget for the first time in 33 years which is a first huge step. Wow, was it ever an eye opener to take a long hard look at our spending habits, yikes! However, now we know where we are and what we need to do to make life more simple in that area. I've been cooking more at home, in fact, most nights now I'm serving dinner here; in the past we ate out about 5 nights a week so this is a significant change. I'm even starting to be a little creative with the meals like I used to be when my kids were little. Tanner keeps asking when we get to start eating dinner out again! I know it's really good for him that we are staying home and having meals around the family table though. I'm also planning a yard sale sometime in June, I want to get rid of lots of excess stuff that we don't need around here. De-cluttering in our physical world seems important to me and so does de-cluttering our inner worlds, I'm working on that too. I'm trying to spend a portion of each day in silence and solitude as a way to help that process along.

I so desperately want to learn to appreciate the little things in life, to stop and take time to notice the details. I also want to have conversations that have some depth instead of never speaking of anything besides superficial stuff. When I get old I want to look back at my life and say, "boy, I sure am glad that I spent my days in that way! I'm glad I took the time to sit down and read, to talk long and deep about those things I've found important, to be interested in what other people have to say, etc. I've gotten so tired racing along the top of the water and never diving into the depths.

I've got my little garden planted, it's just 2 8x8 beds but it's all I want or need. In one bed I've got tomatoes in as well as beets for my borscht, in the other are herbs and Zinnias. (I love having Zinnias to cut and bring in later in the summer.) This year instead of buying those little pony packs from the nursery I just planted seeds, everything is coming along really well too. On my deck I eliminated most of the pots that I usually plant and only saved 4 of the largest ones, they are all planted and I'm waiting for germination to take place.

This week was the last soccer practice and the very last games will be on Saturday morning, it's been a great season! Tanner is a good soccer player and for the most part the weather has been great so the season was really enjoyable. The team won all but one game so the boys are feeling really good about that!

Finally my drawing has dwindled to a trickle, I just seem to be unable to sit down long enough to draw in the evenings these days. For one thing the days are so long that we stay busy with other things until when we do sit down for an hour before bed, I don't feel inclined. I am still managing a drawing or two a week though. I feel pretty sure that as other things in life get in order I will be painting again, I just don't know when.

School gets out on June 7th and after that Tanner will be going with me to the YMCA most days and we will be bowling some too. I don't plan on lots of activities for him this summer, I think we will just let it be a laid back summer for the most part. We do plan to go camping for a week or so though, someplace where all of us can spend time just hanging out and don't have to think about phones or anything that is stressful. Not sure where but I'm looking for a cabin or something (true camping sounds stressful to me because I remember lots of preparations and clean up after in the past :-( ) We are skipping the trip to Canon Beach this year, it is really hard to even think about missing it but we are trying to save money as well as do something that the kids can participate in.

So, that's what's been up around my world, not very exciting reading but you know I'm ok without much excitement these days.
